Courage of Abhimanyu – is it really possible to listen Arjun’s voice when he was in mothers womb?

The ancient texts can sometimes stun us by its exceptional scientific research. Abhimanyu is a well known character in Mahabharata. He was celebrated for his courage and determination. So let’s have a deep look into his story.

Legends: Abhimanyu was the son of Arjuna and Subhadra. He was the nephew of Lord Krishna. According to legends, Once Arjun was reciting to Subhadra about Chakravyuh which is a way of warfare. Abhimanyu was at that time in his mother’s womb. He heard the way of getting into the Chakravyuh but Subhadra fell asleep mid way of the conversation. However, Abhimanyu from his mother’s womb kept on listening to his father. After some time when Arjun saw that Subhadra has fallen asleep, he stopped his conversation. Thus Abhimanyu could not listen to the way of getting out of the Chakravyuh. He only had half knowledge. However, he preserved this very carefully in his mind. After a few years, Abhimanyu grew to be a handsome prince. He was very courageous and no one could defeat him. He married Uttara. During the battle of Kurukshetra, when the Kurava army arranged for a Chakravyuh and no one except Arjun knew it. He was away with army. Abhimanyu who heard the process from his mother’s womb came forward. He entered the Chakravyuh. He was tricked and killed by the Kuravas including Karna. As he did not know the process of going out of the Chakravyuh, he could not escape. He was killed. But his courage was even praised by the Kauravas and he remains as an epitome of courage. He is sometimes known as the Avatar of the Varchas. According to Sadirekha Parinayam, Abhimanyu married Balarama’s daughter Vatsala in a forest. Balarama wanted her to marry Duryodhan’s son Lakshmana Kumar. However, Ghatotkach taking the form of Vatsala injured him. He in turn broke the marriage. But this tale has no mention in the original epic. However, there is another side to it as well. Abhimanyu is described as the incarnation of Varchas who are the sons of the moon. The moon is very glorious in the Hindu epics. He developed a wrongful affair with Brihaspati’s consort Tara. This led to the first battle known as the Tarakamya war in which the demons were on the side of moon. Thus this negative side of moon is often referred to the Asuras. Abhimanyu too was boastful about his strength and entered the Chakravyuh not knowing the method of escaping from the Chakravyuh. Thus he was defeated. His son was King Parikheet who was the last King before the Kali Yuga started.

The science behind this: This again brings us to the concept that the ancient civilizations were great scientists. According to modern science, the tale of Abhimanyu can be rational and might have some basis. Recent research has shown that babies can listen to voices from their mother’s womb. At the Pacific Lutheran University of US, a recent study showed that new-borns can pick up distinctive sounds even in the uterus. They can even master languages while in the womb. The new-borns are not stranger to phonetics and can learn linguistics easily. Nowadays, parents are advised to talk positively when baby is in the womb. Babies reflect positive emotions too. The new-borns were studied for 17 days. They were tested on two sets of vowel sounds. Out of these, 17 were native sounds and 17 were foreign language sounds. The babies interests in the sounds were tested. According to the researchers, the babies have been constantly listening to the sounds particularly the vowels for 10 weeks. Thus new offspring have the capacity to learn and remember which are elementary from the mother’s womb. This is more applicable during the last 3 months of the pregnancy. This is because, during this time the sensory brain mechanisms of the auditory nerves become active after 30 weeks. The interesting part is Abhimanyu was 7 months in his mother’s womb.

So the extent of science is clearly miraculous. We must take pride in our ancient history. Keep following us for more such stunning articles. We will come back soon. Take care and connected.
