Mayan civilization is connected with Sindhu civilizations

By admin

Over the past several decades, the Indian, more accurately Hindu influence on the Mayan civilization of Central America has been noted by many scholars. It is unanimously agreed that there was direct or indirect contact over the centuries, through South East Asia, China and the Far East, though exactly when and how this took place is not as yet clear. As is well known, the Mayan civilization which goes back to about 2600 B.C or earlier, had an advanced astronomy and calendar tradition. So let’s dig up the ancient links.

History: Many scholars argue that the Indus valley civilization and the Mayans from Central America were connected by ancient roots. Indus valley civilization used a Jovian  calendar while the Mayans used Venus based calendar. This is a very significant clue. This is an indication that the Indus script was found in the Eastern islands. An interesting fact remains that the Mayan Calendar was developed in 3112 BC which is quite close to the Hindu mythological beginning of the Kali Yuga that is 3102 BC. This corresponds to the time of the Indus valley civilization or the Harappa civilization. It was also the time of Mahabharata. Marine archaeological researches in the Dwaraka region of Western India put this period near 1500 BC. In fact the Mahabharata period of India overlapped the Indus valley period. Arjun one of the heroes of the Mahabharata was a friend of Maya, an expert architect and he had also married a Naga princess, are of significance. Maya himself is described as an Asura, as contrasted with Devas (literally bright ones), another fact of significance. The vast body of what are called Puranas, a combination of obscure history and mythology are clear on the point that the Devas or the bright ones and the Asuras, literally those who are deprived of the draught (of sun light), are really anti podal inhabitants on the earth, or more precisely those, whose longitude is separated by 180 degrees . This is also explicitly spelt out by Varaha Mihira. Around 500, Varaha Mihira compiled some of the then surviving ancient astronomical systems, and he mentions that when it is noon for the Devas, it is mid night for the Asuras, and that they stand with their heads down as compared to us, but that for them, we stand with our heads down and so on. Significantly, according to the Puranas the Asuras were dictated to by the Planet Venus while the Devas were following the Planet Jupiter. The Naga tribes alluded to above, have been associated with the Mayans and the netherworld or the Asuras or shorn of allegory, the anti podal world. Indeed the surviving Naga tribes of North Eastern India do share the Mongolic features along with the Mayans. According to reports, the ancient Mayas chronicled an invader from far off who was ambidextrous in his warrior skills, a description that exactly describes the hero Arjuna of Mahabharata -one of his epithets is Savya Sachi, or one who is equally adept with both hands. The significance of the liaison between Arjun and the Nagas can be understood. We also further mention you some of the Sindhu influences on the Mayan civilization.

Sindhu Influences on Maya: Sindhu Culture has significant contribution in the Mayan backdrop. We mention below few of the influences.

  • Figures of the Hindu cosmic myth known popularly as the churning of the ocean are found in the Mayan documents.
  • The Swastika symbol, interpreted by some as representing the cosmic cycle, was also present among the Mayans.
  • Unmistakable architectural similarities and parallels exist, though, according to Hindu references, in this case it might well be the Mayan influence on Hindu architecture.
  • Motifs of the lotus, elephant, sea goat and the like, unmistakably paint to Sindhu influence.

Concept of Atlantis: The concept of Atlantis is quite remarkable in both the Cultures. Atlantis is the underworld city. It further points towards the excellent scientific progress in both the civilizations. Mayan King Kinch Janaab’s Pakal, carved onto the lid of his sarcophagus when he died in 683 C.E. shows him taking off in a spaceship. According to mainstream archaeologists, it means falling into the underworld at the moment of his death. The rocket-propelling friar below Pakal is a personification of the underworld, and the spaceship is a world tree, a common feature in Mayan art. As of the Sindhu Culture, we know about the story of Revati in Mahabharata whose father Kukudmini was the ruler of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis. According, to some scholars, similarities existed because the Egyptians, Mayans, and all the ancient cultures that surrounded and preceded them had inherited the same wisdom from the older lost civilization of Atlantis, so named by the classical historians.

Other connections: The coming of aliens in both the civilizations is quite similar. Both of them believed in flying vehicles. The Sindhu Culture depicted flying chariots like the Pushpak Rath mentioned in Ramayana while the Mayans believed in flying birds which is again similar to the idea of Garuda, the massive flying bird and mount of Lord Vishnu in the Sindhu Culture. Some historians say that these can be related to modern day spaceships and it’s possible that space humans or Atlantis people who taught them the modern means. So there’s surely an ancient root in between these Cultures.

So hope you had an idea into the ancient civilizations and their connections. Surely both of these Cultures were interconnected. So keep connected with us. We will be back soon. Till then take care and stay safe.
