Svarozhich the Russian GOD

Slavic deity: He is also known as Savrozic, Svaroshigh and Svaroziczu. He is symbolic of fire, sun and hearth. Radegast temple in Eastern Germany is dedicated to him. He was the son of Savarog who was the god of blacksmiths. In some theologies he is also called Dazhbog. The word Svarozhich means “ son of Savarog”. In some versions of Russian mythology, it is mentioned that there was a cult named after Svarozhich. The residents of the cult were called Slavs. He is often referred as the neo-pagan god. He was the pre-Christian god. Savrozic is mentioned in 1111 CE in the Russian Primary Chronicle. He is listed in the Kievan pantheon of God. In Malala’s Chronicle, it is stated that Svaroziczu is the sun god. He is the son of the creator. He is mentioned in the Russian epic Slovo o Polku Igoreve where he is the ancestor of the Russian people. He is also worshipped in the European context. He is thought similar with the Greek god Apollo. A number of carvings dated 1014 were discovered. It picturised idols decked in armour and helmet which is analogous to Svarozhich. Dazhbog who is same as Svarozhich is like Vedic Bhaga in Roman Jacobson’s view. There he is worshipped as the god of wealth. In Serbian texts, he is the opposite of God. He is also known as silver star. In mining areas, Savrozic is referred as a demon or a devil. He appears next to Khors who is the Persian sun god. According to legends Savarog hammered the sun into shape placing it into the Cosmos.
Relation with science: The Russians were great pioneers in Cosmology. This is quite understandable from the idea of their most respected deity, Svarozhich. They were well developed in Cosmo science and knew that the sun is the centre of all creation. They worshipped the forces of nature and most importantly sun and fire. Even in some versions, it is mentioned that, Savrozic or Svaroshigh is the god of nutrition. This indicates that the Russians were aware that ultraviolet rays of the sun provides nutrition and kills germs. According to the Russian mythology, Savarog hands over the responsibility of the universe to Savrozic, his son. This symbolises that the civilization was well acquainted that sun and fire sustains all living on earth. Isn’t it amazing that such an ancient civilization was so developed in space science?!!!
Relation with Hindu mythology: Svarozhich is analogous to the Hindu sun god. He is also the symbol of fire and nutrition. He is the grandson of Brahma, the creator. Though there lies few differences but idea remains the same. In several versions, Svarozhich is referred as the manifestation of Indo-European god of “ shining sky” or “ heavenly light” which also means sun. Savrozic is created by the Russian creator god Savarog. Similarly the entire cosmos along with the sun is created by Hindu god of creation that is Brahma. Who knows perhaps the whole humankind worshipped the same God but with different names?!!!
Symbol of Svarozhich: The Svarozhich symbol is also the symbol of Savarog associated with blacksmiths. Savrozic is the comic fire from which the gods were forged. It protects humans from destruction and from soul degradation. The most notable feature is the similarity between the Svarozhich and hindu Swastik symbol. Both the symbols are same depicting sun. In Hindu mythology it is called Surya. The Svarozhich symbol is left facing and in Hindu mythology, the left facing Swastika is symbolic of the tantric aspects of Goddess Kali. The similarity between two different cultures from two diverse parts of the world is remarkable. Probably therein lies the beauty of humankind, diverse yet together.
